Think about a typical day in your practice.
Most likely, what comes to mind is a fast-paced, busy schedule filled with countless interactions. Most are unpredictable. All are unscripted. To manage this uncertainty, every member of your team needs to listen, pay attention, and respond in the moment. But few of us are prepared or skilled at doing that.
That’s where improv training comes in.
There is a remarkable degree of overlap between the skills used in improvisational theater, or improv, and those needed to be effective in medicine. Improv is grounded in principles that apply to medical practice: adaptability, collaboration, empathy, and reflective listening.
Veterinary Improv has the potential to transform your work.
Our workshops match improv exercises and techniques to medical skills that are needed to handle the unpredictable situations that are part of veterinary work. By honing these skills, we can all become more resilient and better at managing the change that’s part of daily practice (and life).
“This will change how I think about all the work I have to do. Now when someone asks me to stop what I’m doing and help them, I can see being more willing to do that. We can work together to get both jobs done.”

Applying improv skills to medicine isn’t new.
Improv training is emerging as a key tool in human medical education. It is now part of the curriculum at several medical schools and required training at medical centers like Mayo Clinic. Improv-trained health care providers say improv skills make them more effective communicators, give them a greater sense of well-being, and bring spontaneity (and fun) back into their work.
